Mangaluru: A 30-member team of Mangaluru police has been assigned to escort 21 Bangladeshi nationals, who were allegedly found residing illegally in and around the city, to Malda in West Bengal for further legal action and the deportation process.
According to Mangaluru City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy C H, the police team comprises 30 officers and personnel. The 21 foreign nationals were taken to Bengaluru by bus and were scheduled to travel by train to Malda on August 23.
After reaching West Bengal, they are expected to be handed over to Border Security Force (BSF) personnel in Malda by August 26 for further action under the applicable legal procedures.
30-member police team deployed
The large police escort has been arranged to ensure the safe and secure movement of all 21 individuals from Karnataka to West Bengal.
The operation involves coordinating their journey from Mangaluru to Bengaluru by road and then onwards to Malda by train.
Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy C H said the escort team includes 30 police officers and personnel.
The individuals will remain under police supervision throughout the journey until they are handed over to the BSF authorities.
Identified during police drive in July
The 21 Bangladeshi nationals were identified during a special police drive conducted across Mangaluru in July.
Police carried out checks in different parts of the city as part of efforts to identify foreign nationals allegedly staying in the country without valid authorisation.
During the drive, the individuals were reportedly found residing in Surathkal, Kodikal and areas falling under the jurisdiction of the Urwa police station.
Following their identification, the authorities initiated the required legal and administrative procedures.
Allegations of forged identity documents
According to the police, the individuals were allegedly using fake Aadhaar cards and other forged documents.
They were reportedly working at construction sites in and around Mangaluru.
Police are continuing to examine the circumstances under which the alleged forged documents were obtained and used.
The case also highlights the importance of verifying identity documents and residential records, particularly in sectors where migrant labour is employed.
The alleged use of forged documents will be dealt with in accordance with the applicable law and the findings of the investigation.
To be handed over to BSF in Malda
The police team is expected to hand over the 21 individuals to BSF personnel in Malda by August 26.
The BSF and other competent authorities will then take further action related to the deportation process.
The handover is part of the coordinated procedure followed by different agencies when foreign nationals are identified as allegedly residing in India without valid authorisation.
The police escort will conclude its responsibility after completing the handover to the appropriate authorities.
Coordinated operation across states
The operation involves coordination between the Mangaluru City Police, authorities in Karnataka, railway authorities and security agencies in West Bengal.
Transporting a group of 21 individuals across states under police escort requires detailed planning and security arrangements.
