Mangaluru: Ahead of the upcoming Ganesh Chaturthi festival and a series of celebrations, the North Sub-Division of Mangaluru City police organised a peace and harmony meeting at the auditorium of Kavoor Cooperative Soudha under the Kavoor police station limits.
The meeting brought together religious leaders, representatives of various public Ganeshotsava committees and local leaders from the North Sub-Division to discuss preparations for the festival, maintaining communal harmony and ensuring smooth traffic management.
DCP (Law and Order), Mangaluru City police, Sam Varghese, addressed the gathering and provided detailed guidance on law and order and traffic regulations that need to be strictly followed during Ganeshotsava celebrations.
Police urge peaceful celebrations
Addressing the participants, Sam Varghese stressed the importance of maintaining peace and communal harmony during the festival.
“Festivals are a symbol of harmony and communal amity. Everyone should respect the law and celebrate peacefully without giving room for any untoward incidents,” he advised.
He urged organisers and members of Ganeshotsava committees to cooperate with the police and ensure that celebrations are conducted in accordance with the prescribed rules.
The DCP also highlighted the importance of following traffic regulations, particularly during processions and other public celebrations that could affect the movement of vehicles and pedestrians.
Festival arrangements discussed
Religious leaders and representatives of various Ganeshotsava committees participated in the meeting and shared their views and suggestions on the arrangements for the celebrations.
Discussions also focused on traffic management in areas where public celebrations, processions and other festival-related activities are expected to attract large gatherings.
The meeting provided an opportunity for organisers to raise issues concerning the conduct of the celebrations and seek guidance from the police department on maintaining law and order.
Local leaders from the North Sub-Division also participated in the discussions, contributing suggestions on ensuring that the festival is conducted peacefully and without inconvenience to residents and road users.
Police stress cooperation from organisers
With Ganeshotsava celebrations expected to involve public gatherings and processions, police officials stressed the importance of coordination between organisers and the law enforcement authorities.
Organisers have been urged to ensure compliance with the applicable rules and cooperate with police personnel deployed for maintaining security and regulating traffic.
The meeting also reinforced the need for responsible celebration so that religious festivities do not lead to disputes, traffic congestion or other law-and-order concerns.

ACP of the North Sub-Division K Srikanth attended the meeting along with Kavoor police station Inspector Nagaraj T D, Surathkal police station Inspector Pramod and Bajpe police station Inspector Balakrishna.
Other police officers and personnel were also present.
The participation of police officials from different stations under the North Sub-Division enabled discussions on local arrangements and the challenges that could arise during the festival period.

Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations traditionally involve public installations, cultural programmes, processions and immersion-related activities.
