In a decisive move against online communal incitement, Mangaluru City Police have apprehended five individuals accused of circulating provocative content aimed at disrupting peace in the region, especially across Dakshina Kannada.
Following actionable intelligence, special teams were mobilised by the Police Commissionerate to track down those behind the inflammatory posts. All five arrests are tied to multiple cases registered under different sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), with detailed investigations currently underway.
In the first case, Mohammad Aslam (23) from Hejamady, Udupi, was held for allegedly sharing disturbing content via the Instagram handle team_jokerzzz._. Operating from Saudi Arabia, he was booked under Crime No. 88/2025 with charges under Sections 192 and 353(2) BNS. A lookout circular led to his arrest.
Next, Chetan (20) from Surathkal and Nithin Adapa (23) from Haleangadi allegedly managed the account team_karna_surathkal, registered using a SIM in a Muslim name. Posts were made under the alias Chennappa alias Muthu Suratkal. Booked under Crime No. 58/2025, they face charges under Sections 196(1) and 353(2) BNS.
Riyaaz Ibrahim (30) of Farangipete was held for provocative messages from Saudi via Beary_royal_nawab. FIRs were lodged at Barke and Mulki stations under Sections 353(1)(c) and 353(2).
Jamaal Zakir (21) ran Troll_bengare_ro_makka and was charged under Crime No. 44/2025 at Mulki.
Guru Prasad of Kolavail was caught for hate content on Facebook (Guru dprasad Haleyangadi) under Crime No. 53/2025, facing multiple BNS charges.
All arrests were led by CEN police under the guidance of Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy, with DCPs Siddharth Goyal and Ravishankar monitoring the probe.
