MANGALURU: City police have arrested two inter-state thieves from Kerala in connection with the theft of two scooters parked near Naguri and the Adimaya Temple in Jappinamogaru. The arrest comes after a swift investigation by the Kankanady City Police, who tracked the suspects and apprehended them on 30 November.

Accused arrested after planned return to Mangaluru

The arrested men have been identified as Alex Dominic (25) from Ottathai, Vellad in Kerala, and Amal Krishna (25) from Kurachoor, Calicut.
Police said the duo had travelled to Mangaluru on 14 November to meet friends and were loitering around the Mangaluru Junction railway station area before committing the thefts.

According to officials, the two men stole a scooter parked near the Naguri bus stop and another near the Adimaya Temple in Jappinamogaru. Investigators said the accused used a direct-connection method to start the scooters without keys.

Investigation leads to quick breakthrough

A case was registered at the Kankanady City Police Station, following which police teams began analysing CCTV footage and gathering intelligence inputs.
During the investigation, police identified the suspects and began tracking their movements.

Officers later received credible information that the duo was planning to return to Mangaluru on 30 November. A special team was deployed, and the accused were intercepted and arrested upon arrival.

Stolen vehicles and devices recovered

Police have seized two stolen scooters and two mobile phones used in the crime.
The total estimated value of the recovered property stands at ₹1.23 lakh.

Officials said the arrests have helped crack an inter-state vehicle theft pattern, and further investigation is underway to determine whether the accused were involved in similar offences in Karnataka or Kerala.
