Mangaluru: A 16-year-old girl who had gone missing returned home within 24 hours on Saturday, according to police reports. The girl had a disagreement with her parents and initially refused to return home, prompting the police to move her to Balika Mandir for safety.

Addressing concerns about rising instances of women being targeted in the area, Police Commissioner Anupam Agrawal acknowledged receiving complaints about miscreants making lewd remarks towards women and girls. In response, the police have increased patrolling efforts through 112 vehicles and foot patrols. Additionally, the Panambur police have requested the New Mangalore Port Authority (NMPA) to install proper lighting. “We’ve established a WhatsApp group with residents to promptly report such incidents. Furthermore, evening patrolling via 112 vehicles has been intensified,” Agrawal stated.
