The Mangaluru City Police have released a public advisory encouraging residents to use the unified emergency number 112, introduced under the nationwide ‘One Nation, One Emergency Number’ program. This initiative, backed by the Karnataka government, is designed to streamline emergency responses across police, fire, and disaster services.
Previously, citizens had to dial separate numbers for different emergencies. Now, under the Emergency Response Support System (ERSS), calling 112 alone connects the caller to all critical services through a centralized system.
Residents within the Mangaluru City Police Commissionerate can use the number in cases involving accidents, robbery, theft, burglary, assault, riots, or incidents concerning women, children, senior citizens, or suspicious activity or individuals. Calls are prioritized, and the nearest patrol unit is immediately dispatched to assist.
The ERSS operates city-wide, offering prompt help no matter the caller’s location. A fleet of 28 patrol vehicles has been deployed for this purpose, including 21 Hoysala units and 7 highway patrol vehicles, all functioning 24/7 to ensure rapid response.
Police Commissionerate officials have emphasized the importance of using 112 for any emergency, assuring the public of timely and coordinated support. The public is urged to spread awareness and make full use of this modernized emergency response framework for their safety and that of others.
