Mangaluru: Dynamic young leader and social reformer Pratibha Kulai has been chosen for the Vishwavani Global Achievers Award in recognition of her outstanding contributions to social service. The award ceremony will take place in Moscow, Russia, on April 24.
Celebrated for her deep commitment to women’s empowerment, child welfare, and marginalized communities, Pratibha Kulai has positively impacted over 500 lives through the Kulai Foundation. Her work includes promoting self-employment through financial aid, offering legal support to domestic abuse survivors, and providing educational help to underprivileged children.
In partnership with Mangaluru City Corporation, she has also pioneered a comprehensive rehabilitation plan for trans women across Surathkal, Kankanady, and Baala.
A Multifaceted Trailblazer
Academically accomplished, Pratibha holds an MSW from Mangalore University, an M.Phil in Social Work from Salem University, and an MA in English from Mysore University. She has served as a college lecturer and continues to guide youth as a counselling and career mentor.
As a Congress corporator and former Chairperson of the Education and Standing Committee of Mangaluru City Corporation, she led high-impact developmental work, gaining recognition for record fund utilization.
A Legacy of Service
Coming from the respected Gurkhar family, her roots in community service trace back to her grandfather Shinappa Master, and father Prabhakar Kulai—both known for their selfless service.
Compassion in Action
During the COVID-19 crisis, Pratibha personally cooked and distributed meals for over 400 people daily. Her dedication extends beyond social work—she is also a successful agriculturist and fisheries entrepreneur, with plantations in Karkala and Kundapur. Her ornamental fish breeding initiative earned her the National Agricultural Woman Award at the 2011 Krishi Mela in Bengaluru.
A true inspiration, Pratibha Kulai continues to mentor MSW students and stands as a beacon of hope, resilience, and grassroots leadership.
