Southern Railway Palakkad divisional railway manager Arun Kumar Chaturvedi announced efforts to reduce retention time at the Pandeshwar level crossing in Mangaluru, which frequently causes traffic jams due to train movements to and from the Bunder Goods Shed. During a meeting chaired by Dakshina Kannada MP Capt Brijesh Chowta, representatives demanded an immediate solution for this persistent issue.

Chaturvedi explained that constructing a road under bridge (RUB) at the site is not feasible. Instead, a road over bridge (RoB) has been proposed, pending design submission from the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC). Plans are also underway to add another stabling line at the Goods Shed to improve the situation. Additionally, Chaturvedi emphasized the need to widen Mangaladevi road to alleviate congestion.

Former mayor Divakar Pandeshwar pointed out that road users experience 15-20 minute waits each time the level crossing is closed, happening up to 16 times a day. However, a railway official contested this, stating only three trains pass daily.

An official from Konkan Railway Corporation Limited (KRCL) mentioned a proposal to move the Ro-Ro facility from Suratkal to Thokur, requiring additional land from KIADB. Estimates for redeveloping Suratkal and Mulki railway stations have also been prepared.

A masterplan for Mangaluru Central railway station’s redevelopment was presented, featuring a foot over bridge (FOB) from the second entry to platforms, a new booking facility, and parking for 1,200 four-wheelers with provisions for multi-level parking.

Deputy commissioner Mullai Muhilan MP announced the formation of two committees to enhance coordination on railway-related issues. The main committee will meet quarterly, while an executive committee will convene monthly to address ongoing concerns.
