The Additional District and Sessions Court (POCSO FTC-1) in Mangaluru has sentenced Guruvappa Mogera, a 49-year-old teacher from Kallamundkur, to five years in prison for misconduct involving a minor student. Mogera was accused of inappropriate behavior towards students, leading to complaints. On March 12, 2024, one student reported being targeted, which prompted further accusations from four others.

Judge D. Vinay imposed multiple sentences under the relevant sections of the law, including a five-year term under POCSO Section 10. The court also fined the teacher ₹10,000, with additional imprisonment in case of non-payment, and ordered ₹1 lakh in compensation to the victim.

The case, handled by Sub-Inspector Shivrudramma S. and argued by Special Public Prosecutor Sahanadevi Boluru, reached a verdict within seven months, following the Supreme Court’s directives for swift handling of such cases.
