Mangaluru: A government school in Beernahithlu, Chikkmudnoor village (under Puttur BEO limits), faced turmoil as parents threatened to withdraw their children due to tensions with a teacher. The school, with 27 students, witnessed rising friction between the teacher and local residents.
According to Puttur Block Education Officer (BEO) Lokesh S R, the teacher in question had been temporarily moved two years ago after similar demands. However, her return this academic year reignited the issue. A meeting involving parents, the School Development and Monitoring Committee (SDMC), and education officials resulted in a decision to transfer the teacher again.
The controversy stemmed from an earlier incident where the teacher reportedly took students on an outing without informing the SDMC or the headteacher, prompting a formal complaint. This act led to her initial transfer. The recent re-posting, despite objections, angered parents and SDMC members, who claimed the education department had been unresponsive to their concerns.
To defuse the situation, the department has now deputed the teacher to another government school temporarily. Lokesh confirmed that she has applied for a permanent transfer and the process is ongoing.
The BEO added that the matter is now resolved. However, SDMC members voiced frustration, alleging that the department ignored repeated appeals for the teacher’s transfer, forcing parents to take drastic steps to safeguard their children’s education environment.
