Mangaluru is set to host its first state-level exhibition, titled Kanda Moola, dedicated to showcasing tuber, turnip, and leafy vegetables. Organized by the Savayava Krishika Grahaka Balaga, Sri Saraswati Charitable Trust, and Keshava Smriti Samvardhana Samiti, the event will take place at Sanghaniketan, Mannagudda, on January 4 and 5, 2025.
K Ratnakar Kulai, the organizing secretary, emphasized the exhibition’s goal to highlight the health benefits of these vegetables and encourage their cultivation among farmers. Participants will include farmers from across Karnataka and enthusiasts from neighboring states like Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala.
In addition to exhibitions and sales, there will be special sessions for students focusing on the health benefits and value addition of tubers. Notable participants include Shaji NM from Wayanad, who will showcase over 200 varieties of tubers. The event will also feature interactive sessions led by experts on the health advantages of these vegetables.
A preparatory event, Ele Arivu, aimed at raising awareness about various leaves, grasses, and plants, is scheduled for November 10 at Sri Bharati Sabhabhavana, Nanthoor.
