Belthangady: In a heart-wrenching incident, three nursing students from Mangaluru lost their lives while bathing in the Barkaje Dam at Moodukodi village in Belthangady taluk on Wednesday evening.
Victims of the tragedy
The deceased have been identified as Lawrence (20) from Edapadu, Suraj (19) from Madanthyar, and Jaison (19) from Vaggada. The trio had visited Moodukodi to attend a programme at the Venoor church. They were guests at the residence of a local named Walter.
Incident details
After lunch, the group decided to visit the Kindi Dam near Walter’s home. During their visit, the three entered the river for a bath but were tragically trapped by the water currents, leading to their drowning.
Venoor police promptly responded to the scene and managed to recover the bodies. According to initial reports, the three youths were classmates and shared a common background as nursing students in Mangaluru.
A loss mourned by many
The untimely demise of these young lives has cast a pall of grief over their families, friends, and the local community. Investigations are ongoing, and authorities have urged caution around water bodies, particularly during outings.
