In honor of International Yoga Day, a mass yoga event was hosted at Mangaluru’s Town Hall, drawing widespread involvement from citizens, students, public figures, and yoga enthusiasts. The program was coordinated by the Dakshina Kannada district authorities, Ayush department, Ayush college, and several local groups.
Deputy Commissioner Darshan H V, while addressing attendees, emphasized that yoga should become an everyday wellness practice, not just a yearly ritual. He noted that yoga is a holistic health system, now embraced worldwide for its mental, physical, and emotional benefits.
Member of Parliament Capt. Brijesh Chowta described yoga as an integral aspect of Indian culture, highlighting its unifying power and potential to connect humanity.
Yoga master Gopalakrishna Delampady, accompanied by his team, directed participants through a structured session based on the Ministry of Ayush protocol. The routine involved opening prayers, joint movements, standing and seated postures, breathing techniques, and meditation, culminating in a peace chant.
Key dignitaries in attendance included MLC Manjunath Bhandari, ZP CEO Dr. Anandh K, MLAs Dr. Bharath Shetty, Vedavyasa Kamath, and District Ayush Officer Dr. Iqbal.
Simultaneously, Mangaluru International Airport conducted its own yoga demonstration at the domestic arrivals hall. Instructors Kumar Shenoy and Skanda S Navada led airport staff, CISF, customs officers, and travelers through accessible yoga techniques. Skanda impressed the gathering with a flawless performance of complex asanas, reinforcing the universal appeal of yoga.
