Mangaluru: The Women’s Police Station in Mangaluru has registered a case against two men for allegedly harassing a married woman, pressuring her to enter into a relationship with one of them, defaming her character after she rejected his advances, and issuing death threats.

The accused have been identified as Kiran Kottari and Raj Marla, both residents of Polali. Police have registered the case based on the complaint lodged by the woman and have initiated steps to apprehend the accused.

Woman alleges persistent harassment

According to the complaint, Kiran Kottari was acquainted with the woman’s husband and allegedly obtained her mobile phone number in March.

The complainant alleged that Kiran repeatedly contacted her and pressured her to enter into a romantic relationship with him. She stated that he attempted to persuade her by offering gifts and promising her a comfortable life if she accepted his proposal.

Despite her repeated refusal, the accused allegedly continued to contact and stalk her, causing her considerable mental distress and harassment.

Character defamation after rejection

The woman further alleged that after she informed her husband about the harassment, Kiran Kottari began spreading false and defamatory rumours about her character.

According to the complaint, the accused allegedly made malicious allegations against her in an attempt to tarnish her reputation. She also alleged that her children were targeted as part of the campaign to defame and intimidate her.

The second accused, Raj Marla, is alleged to have assisted Kiran in circulating the defamatory rumours.

The complaint further states that Kiran also conveyed the alleged false claims to the woman’s brother-in-law, further affecting her family’s reputation.

Death threat near Kaikamba

The woman alleged that on June 27, she confronted Kiran Kottari near Kaikamba regarding his alleged actions and persistent harassment.

During the confrontation, Kiran allegedly abused her using vulgar language and threatened to kill her, according to the complaint.

Following the incident, the woman approached the Women’s Police Station and lodged a formal complaint seeking legal action against the accused.

Police register case, investigation underway

Based on the complaint, the Women’s Police Station in Mangaluru has registered a case against Kiran Kottari and Raj Marla.

Police said that steps have been initiated to arrest the accused and that further investigation is underway.

Officials are expected to record statements from the complainant and other witnesses as part of the investigation. Further action will be taken based on the evidence collected during the course of the probe.

As the matter is under investigation, the allegations contained in the complaint are yet to be tested in court, and the accused are entitled to due process under the law.
