Mangaluru: Team India mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter Nikhil Shetty has brought pride to Mangaluru by winning the silver medal at the GAMMA Asian Championship 2026 held in Malaysia. Competing against some of Asia’s leading amateur MMA athletes, Nikhil finished runner-up in the 74.9 kg weight category, marking a major achievement in his sporting career.

Strong performance on the continental stage

Representing India at the prestigious continental championship, Nikhil Shetty showcased consistent performances throughout the tournament to secure a place in the final.

Facing tough competition from top amateur MMA fighters across Asia, he displayed determination, skill and resilience before finishing with the silver medal in the 74.9 kg division.

The medal adds to India’s growing presence in international mixed martial arts and is a significant milestone in Nikhil’s amateur career.

Guided by experienced coaching team

Nikhil trains under the guidance of coach Kaushik Boloor, whose mentorship has played a key role in his development as a competitive MMA athlete.

He is also supported by teammates Mohith Karkera, Sudeep Kottary and Karthik Putran, who have contributed to his preparation through regular training and competitive sparring.

Their collective efforts helped Nikhil prepare for one of Asia’s biggest amateur MMA competitions.

He currently teaches and trains athletes at Kasharp Fitness and The Den, where he helps aspiring fighters and fitness enthusiasts develop their skills.
