Mangaluru: Karnataka Assembly Speaker UT Khader announced that construction of a riverfront road along the Nethravati River is in progress, connecting Kallapu to Sajipa. The Rs 160 crore project is being executed in phases, with 20% of the work already completed. Multiple stretches along the route are currently under development, and the entire project will take additional time to finish, he said on Monday.

Khader highlighted that the Thumbe vented dam, which supplies water to Mangaluru, has not been filled to its maximum capacity of seven meters to avoid flooding farmlands between Thumbe and Sajipa. Compensating affected landowners would cost around Rs 160-180 crore. He emphasized that the riverfront road will help prevent land submergence while improving connectivity.

Enhanced Connectivity & Scenic Route

Once completed, the new road will offer seamless travel between Mangaluru and Harekala, Pavoor, Inoli, and Sajipa, easing traffic congestion. Commuters will also enjoy a picturesque drive, with the river on one side and lush plantations, religious sites, and small islands on the other.

Seafront Road Project in Initial Stage

Khader also revealed plans for a seafront road from Kotepura to Talapady, estimated to cost Rs 1,000 crore. This proposal is currently in the preliminary phase.
