Mangaluru: The Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) has called for applications from eligible candidates to join the temporary Town Vending Committee. The panel will include street vendors, community representatives, and stakeholders involved in urban livelihoods.
Applicants must be engaged in street vending within MCC limits for at least five years and be part of a registered vendors’ association or federation in the city. Representation will be reserved as follows:
-
General – 1
Backward Class – 1
Scheduled Caste – 1
Scheduled Tribe – 1
Minorities – 2
Women – 3
Persons with Disabilities – 1
Preference will be given to organisations working with street vendors and women, especially those formed under Central Government schemes, as well as NGOs with at least five years of active social service.
Others eligible to apply include social workers, trade union members, market and hotel association representatives within city limits. Applications must be submitted by July 25 to the DAY-NULM community affairs officer at the MCC office or emailed to [email protected], said MCC Commissioner Ravichandra Naik.
Strict Action Against Illegal Constructions
The MCC also reiterated that no service connections — including electricity, water, sewage, or trade licenses — will be provided to unauthorised constructions.
As per the KMC Act and Supreme Court guidelines, all buildings must have a valid construction license, follow the approved plan, and obtain an occupancy certificate before use. Violation will attract penalties and legal action, warned the Commissioner.
