Mangaluru: As part of the preparation process for the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) 2026–27 budget, the city corporation will conduct a two-round public consultation, with the first round scheduled to be held at 2.30 pm on Monday at the Mangala Auditorium of the MCC.
The meeting will be chaired by Deputy Commissioner Darshan H V, who is also serving as the administrator of the Mangaluru City Corporation. The consultation aims to gather public suggestions and opinions to ensure that the upcoming budget reflects the needs and priorities of various stakeholders in the city.
Platform for public suggestions
During the meeting, citizens and organisations will be given an opportunity to present their views, proposals, and concerns related to civic development, infrastructure, public services, and welfare initiatives. The inputs collected during this first round will be considered while drafting the MCC’s budget for the financial year 2026–27.
Officials said the public consultation process is intended to promote transparency, participatory governance, and inclusive decision-making in municipal administration.
Call for wide participation
MCC Commissioner Ravichandra Naik has urged all eligible stakeholders to participate actively in the consultation. He said that registered residential welfare associations, registered non-governmental organisations, commercial and industrial associations, public representatives, and members of the general public are encouraged to attend the meeting in large numbers and share their suggestions.
According to the commissioner, constructive inputs from diverse sections of society will help the corporation prioritise projects and allocate resources more effectively in the upcoming budget.
Two-round consultation process
The MCC has planned a two-round consultation process to ensure wider engagement and detailed deliberation on budgetary matters. While the first round focuses on collecting broad suggestions and expectations, the second round will provide an opportunity to review and refine proposals based on feasibility and available resources.
Officials stated that details regarding the second round of consultation will be announced after the completion of the first meeting.
Conclusion
By inviting public participation in the budget preparation process, the Mangaluru City Corporation aims to strengthen civic engagement and ensure that the 2026–27 budget addresses the city’s developmental priorities. The consultation is expected to play a key role in shaping policies and projects that directly impact the daily lives of Mangaluru’s residents.
