The Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) administration has issued a stern warning to a waste-vehicle driver who was caught transporting a live dog in the vehicle.
Speaking to the media, Mayor Sudhir Kumar Shetty Kannur addressed the issue, stating, “Animal lovers voiced their concerns after a video emerged showing a domestic dog being placed in a waste-collecting vehicle. The dog, which belonged to a resident of Dongarakeri, was handed over to civic workers after neighbors complained it was causing a disturbance. The incident came to our attention on Tuesday, and the driver has since been warned not to repeat this action.”
He further explained, “The dog’s owner lives abroad, and the current occupants of the house requested the civic workers to remove the dog as it was creating problems for the neighborhood. This was the first time the MCC driver encountered such a situation. We have now instructed all MCC drivers to avoid engaging in similar actions going forward.”
The incident has sparked concern among animal welfare advocates, with renewed emphasis on handling animals more humanely.
