Mangaluru, Jun 2: Mescom has reported a loss of Rs 9.63 crore owing to damage to transformers, poles, and other equipment caused by pre-monsoon rains and high-velocity winds. Operating in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Chikkamagaluru, and Shivamogga, Mescom faced the most significant damage between April 1 and May 31.

In Chikkamagaluru, the losses amounted to Rs 353.1 lakh, while Dakshina Kannada reported damages worth Rs 241.72 lakh. Udupi and Shivamogga saw equipment damage worth Rs 200.79 lakh and Rs 167.70 lakh, respectively.

A total of 5,883 electricity poles were uprooted: 2,066 in Chikkamagaluru, 1,564 in Shivamogga, 1,306 in Dakshina Kannada, and 947 in Udupi. Additionally, 165 transformers were damaged, with 26 in Dakshina Kannada, 20 in Udupi, and 119 in Shivamogga. High-velocity winds damaged 157.72 km of electricity cables: 65.30 km in Dakshina Kannada, 18.56 km in Udupi, 41.32 km in Chikkamagaluru, and 31.54 km in Shivamogga.

Mescom has since rectified all the affected equipment, ensuring restored services across the impacted regions.
