Mangalore: A passenger travelling on the Mangalore Super Fast train from Chennai Egmore has raised concerns over passenger safety after discovering that a window latch was missing, leaving the window unsecured throughout the journey.
According to the passenger, the train departed Chennai Egmore at 11.10 pm on Tuesday. Soon after boarding, they noticed that the window latch at their seat was completely missing, making it impossible to lock the window properly.
Passengers improvise to secure window
With no immediate solution available, the passengers reportedly improvised by wedging a water bottle between the window frames to keep it from opening during the overnight journey.
The passenger shared the incident on social media, highlighting the issue in a light-hearted manner while drawing attention to the need for better maintenance of coaches.
“We improvised by wedging a water bottle between the frames to keep it safe during the journey. Huge thanks to Indian Railways for the adventure, but maybe fix those latches?” the post read.
Call for better maintenance
The incident has once again raised concerns about routine maintenance and safety checks on railway coaches before they are put into service.
While no injuries or untoward incidents were reported, the episode has prompted calls for Indian Railways to ensure that basic safety features, including window latches, are properly maintained to provide a safe and comfortable travel experience for passengers.
Railway authorities are yet to respond to the complaint.
