Mission Inde UAM, the Indian student community, and the Jatti Foundation, with support from Yes We Can and Clean Oceans India, have successfully raised awareness about social responsibilities among locals. For the past five years, the Jatti Foundation has been committed to social service and welfare through various programs, including ‘Project Vidyadegula 2.0’ and ocean sustainability efforts.
‘Project Vidyadegula 2.0,’ launched last year, aims to provide quality education and better infrastructure to underprivileged areas in Karnataka. This project partnered with 14 students from the School of Odensia in France to gain practical insights into social welfare. This year, the partnership continued with a new batch of students, transforming an old building into a functional school equipped with essential infrastructure. A ship cargo box was repurposed into a library, offering a wealth of knowledge.
The initiative collaborates with UAM, which focuses on community service in developing countries through action-driven programs and exchange opportunities. A significant effort was directed towards the coastal region to maintain ecological balance and promote ocean tourism. French students and local volunteers participated in an ocean sustainability program in Mangaluru, cleaning Ullal beach and seaboard, and in Manipal. They collected and properly disposed of over three tonnes of plastic waste, inspiring locals to actively conserve the environment.
The hard work and dedication of these students were recognized by the vice chancellor of Mangalore University, who honored their contributions.
