Sullia: Responding sharply to derogatory comments made during a protest organised by the Hindu Jagaran Vedike, MLA Ashok Kumar Rai stated that the language used was not in line with local cultural values.
Speaking in Sullia, he noted, “It is not part of our tradition to address others disrespectfully or in singular terms.” He also clarified that only two individuals present at the protest in Puttur belonged to the said organization, while the remaining participants were reportedly from Sullia and other nearby areas.
“One fellow — I don’t even know from where he came — attended and made inappropriate statements. He should have at least stayed in Puttur for some time and understood the local dynamics before making such remarks,” Rai said, taking a veiled jab at one of the protestors.
He emphasized that his intention is not to oppose anyone personally, but rather to raise awareness among those spreading unnecessary negativity. “We are not against any individual or group, but we will certainly work to enlighten those who stir such sentiments,” he added.
Rai further remarked that education would not be limited to mere words. “We will educate through legal action, principles of justice, and, if necessary, by using strength. We know how to respond appropriately from all angles.”
He concluded by stating, “No one gains greatness by demeaning others with a single hurtful sentence.”
