Mangaluru City South MLA D. Vedavyas Kamath has criticized the Congress-led Karnataka government for neglecting the development of backward communities. Addressing the media on Thursday, Kamath accused the government of canceling funds allocated by the previous BJP administration and failing to release new funds for their welfare.

Kamath highlighted that past governments established development corporations to empower economically, socially, and politically backward communities. “The BJP government sanctioned over ₹1,000 crore for backward class welfare. However, the Congress government has halted these initiatives, jeopardizing the progress of communities like Devadiga, Mogaveera, Billava, and others,” he said.

According to Kamath, the BJP government had approved 1,093 projects, including hostels, community halls, and organizations, across Karnataka. These projects, he alleged, have been unilaterally scrapped by the Congress government, diverting funds towards guarantee schemes instead.

He also pointed out that despite announcing a ₹1,600-crore budget for backward class development, the Congress government has only disbursed minimal grants, with no substantial funds reaching the intended corporations. Kamath specifically mentioned the stalled efforts for the Sri Narayana Guru Development Corporation and the Bunts’ Development Corporation, which remain without leadership or funding.

Kamath demanded the immediate restoration of canceled funds and the allocation of additional resources for the upliftment of backward communities. “This neglect must be rectified to ensure justice for these communities,” he asserted.
