Mysuru: The counting of votes for the Legislative Council election in the South-West Graduates’ Constituency concluded late Thursday night at Maharani Science College in Mysuru. Dr. Dhananjaya Sarji, the JD(S)-backed BJP candidate, emerged victorious with a lead of 24,111 votes.

In the final tally, Dr. Sarji secured 37,627 votes, outpacing Congress candidate Ayanur Manjunatha, who garnered 13,516 votes.

Independent candidate and former MLA K. Raghupathi Bhat managed to obtain 7,039 votes. Out of a total of 66,497 votes cast, 5,115 were rejected.

Dr. Sarji surpassed the required quota of 30,692 votes by the fourth round and cemented his win in the fifth round with 37,627 votes. Another contender, S.P. Dinesh, received 2,518 votes.

Regional Commissioner Dr. G.C. Prakash presented Dr. Sarji with the certificate of victory.
