Moodbidri: A 17-year-old student died after the scooter he was travelling on fell at a bend near the Veera Maruthi Temple in Kotebail on Wednesday evening.
The deceased has been identified as Prashchith Hegde, son of Sudhakar Hegde of Kotebail and a student of Jain Pre-University College.
Scooter falls at bend
The incident occurred when Prashchith and Deekshith Hegde were travelling by scooter from Shirthady towards Kotebail.
As they reached a bend near the Veera Maruthi Temple, the scooter reportedly fell, causing both riders to sustain injuries.
Prashchith suffered severe injuries to his head in the accident. Deekshith also sustained head injuries.
Prashchith succumbs to injuries
Following the accident, both were immediately shifted to a hospital for medical treatment.
However, Prashchith’s condition was critical due to the severity of his head injuries. Despite efforts by doctors, he succumbed to his injuries.
The death of the 17-year-old student has left his family, friends and the local community in shock.
Police register case
A case has been registered at the Moodbidri police station in connection with the incident. Further investigation is under way.
The accident has also raised concerns about safety at bends and the need for motorists, particularly young riders, to exercise caution while negotiating curves.
Tragedy cuts short young life
Prashchith was pursuing his pre-university education at Jain Pre-University College. His death in a road accident at such a young age has brought grief to his family and those who knew him.
The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining control and reducing speed while approaching bends, where visibility and road conditions can change suddenly.
