Mangaluru: MLA Dr. Y Bharath Shetty has condemned the police for filing a B report in connection with a case involving Muslims offering Namaz in the middle of a road.
Speaking to reporters, MLA Shetty expressed his disapproval of the recent incident where Muslims offered Namaz on a public road, calling for a comprehensive probe into the matter. He criticized the police for filing a B report, alleging that it was done under pressure.
Dr. Shetty also questioned the state government’s decision to place the police inspector, who initiated the suo motu case, on compulsory leave pending an inquiry. On May 28, a suo motu case was registered at Mangaluru East Police Station. The case was filed against unidentified individuals for allegedly obstructing pedestrians and disrupting the free flow of vehicles.
“Will they allow Hindus to recite the Hanuman Chalisa on the streets, like they did for Namaz? Was it right to perform Namaz on a busy street?” questioned Dr. Bharath Shetty.
“We seek permission for organizing Yakshagana or any program. But closing a road and performing Namaz was not appropriate,” he added.
Dr. Shetty also stated that he would raise this issue in the upcoming legislative session and demand answers from the government. He further alleged that officers are working under undue pressure.
