Namma Yatri, supported by the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), is redefining urban transportation in Karnataka with its driver-focused platform. The app was officially launched in Mangalore by UT Khader, Speaker of the Karnataka Vidhana Sabha, along with transport department officials. This follows a successful month-long trial that received enthusiastic backing from local drivers. In November, nearly 500 trips were completed, and 300 drivers signed up, signaling a strong start for the initiative.
The platform plans to expand further into neighboring towns like Manipal and Udupi, showing its commitment to enhancing regional mobility across Karnataka. Khader praised the initiative at the launch, highlighting the need for affordable, reliable, and accessible transport solutions to drive the state’s growth. He emphasized that Namma Yatri’s model empowers drivers while providing commuters with more affordable and convenient travel options.
Namma Yatri’s growth in Mangalore has been driven by grassroots support, with word-of-mouth and community recommendations fueling driver enrollments. Encouraged by its success in Mangalore, the company is now focusing on expanding to Kalaburagi. Naveen Kumar, a community ambassador, pointed out that the app makes booking easier for both drivers and passengers, offering transparent fares and door-to-door service. This mutual benefit fosters trust between customers and drivers.
Earlier this year, Namma Yatri drivers in Tumkur and Gulbarga completed over 2.8 lakh trips, generating earnings of Rs 2 crore. With 2.3 lakh drivers and 50 lakh customers across Karnataka, Namma Yatri is rapidly growing, facilitating 1.6 lakh trips daily.
