Shashidhar Shetty, Secretary of the National Environmental Conservation Federation (NECF), has submitted a letter to MP Brijesh Chowta, urging him to address the escalating traffic concerns with a flyover in Mangaluru. The letter stresses the need for infrastructure development to reduce accidents and ease traffic congestion in the city.

One of the key suggestions is to construct a flyover from Nanthoor to Pumpwell. This proposed flyover would span from Mangaluru, Kuntikan via Nanthoor to Pumpwell, effectively addressing the challenges posed by the city’s geographical and topographical constraints. It aims to streamline the traffic flow, significantly reducing congestion at critical points.

Additionally, the letter recommends the creation of a bypass route connecting Kundapur, Udupi, and the National Highway to Bajpe via Surathkal. This bypass would divert long-distance traffic away from the city center, easing congestion and enhancing traffic management across Mangaluru.

The NECF has urged MP Chowta to bring these proposals to the attention of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways for swift implementation. The letter underscores the urgency of these measures, highlighting Mangaluru’s rapid urban growth and the increasing volume of vehicular traffic as key concerns that need immediate attention.
