Mangaluru: New Mangalore Port Authority (NMPA) marked India’s 80th Independence Day with a call for stronger, greener and more prosperous growth, highlighting the port’s contribution to trade, energy security and the regional economy.

Maritime sector’s role in India’s growth

Addressing the Independence Day celebrations at NMPA, Deputy Chairperson and Chief Guest S. Shanthi paid tribute to the freedom fighters whose sacrifices helped pave the way for an independent India.

She also acknowledged the collective contribution of the port fraternity, including seafarers, pilots, dock workers, officers, employees, security personnel, trade partners and other stakeholders.

Focus on a smarter and greener port

Shanthi highlighted NMPA’s progress in areas including cargo growth, digitalisation, mechanisation, environmental sustainability and employee welfare.

She said the port’s vision is to become smarter, cleaner, safer and more inclusive, reflecting the changing needs of India’s maritime sector and the wider economy.

The port’s role in supporting trade and energy security also remains important to the regional economy, with the efforts of employees and stakeholders contributing to its continued development.

Looking towards Amrit Kaal 2047

Looking ahead to Amrit Kaal 2047, Shanthi called for continued cooperation between the port community, government, trade and shipping fraternity and citizens.

She stressed the importance of collaboration in building a stronger and more resilient maritime ecosystem capable of supporting India’s long-term growth.
