Union Minister for Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, unveiled the Golden Jubilee Song of the New Mangalore Port Authority (NMPA) during the Chintan Shivir organized by the ministry in Srinagar on Thursday.
Established in January 1975, New Mangalore Port serves as Karnataka’s maritime lifeline. From an initial cargo volume of one lakh tonnes, it has expanded exponentially, now handling 46 million tonnes annually.
As per NMPA, the Golden Jubilee Song pays tribute to the port’s five-decade evolution, highlighting its transformation from a modest anchorage to a bustling maritime hub. The song blends traditional melodies with modern rhythms, reflecting the region’s rich heritage and the port’s journey of growth and innovation.
The Golden Jubilee Celebrations will span an entire year, featuring a series of significant events. NMPA plans to inaugurate a 150-bed port hospital under the PPP model, issue a commemorative stamp and coin, and publish a coffee table book chronicling its history. Additionally, several infrastructure projects and CSR initiatives will be introduced to benefit the local community.
Union Minister of State for Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, Shantanu Thakur, along with Ministry Secretary TK Ramachandran and NMPA Chairman AV Ramana, attended the event.
