Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner Darshan H V has assured residents that there is no disruption in the supply of domestic cooking gas (LPG) in the district and that adequate stock is available to meet public demand.

Addressing media queries at the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Mangaluru on Friday, Darshan H V said the administration is closely monitoring the LPG supply chain and there is no reason for the public to worry about shortages in the coming days.

He clarified that domestic LPG cylinders are currently being distributed as per the existing rule of one cylinder every 25 days. Citizens have been urged not to panic or attempt to book multiple cylinders unnecessarily, as such bookings are not permitted under the present system.

“The public should not rush to book additional cylinders. The system already regulates supply, and there is enough stock to meet domestic demand in the district,” the deputy commissioner stated.

Strict measures against hoarding

The district administration has initiated strict measures to ensure that LPG distribution agencies do not hoard excess stock.

Police teams from both the Mangaluru Police Commissionerate and the Dakshina Kannada district police have conducted inspections at several LPG storage facilities in recent days. These inspections are aimed at ensuring that agencies follow the prescribed guidelines and maintain transparency in stock management.

Officials have warned that strict action will be taken against agencies or individuals found violating rules related to storage or distribution of LPG cylinders.

The administration’s proactive steps are intended to prevent artificial shortages and ensure that domestic consumers receive their LPG supply without interruption.

Coordination with oil companies

To maintain smooth supply across the district, the deputy commissioner also held a meeting with general managers and senior officials of major oil marketing companies.

Representatives from Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) participated in the meeting. Discussions focused on strengthening the supply chain and ensuring timely delivery of LPG cylinders to distribution agencies and consumers.

Authorities have also taken measures to prevent disruptions in the transportation of LPG cylinders to other regions. The district administration has ensured that LPG movement to places such as Hyderabad and various parts of Tamil Nadu continues smoothly.

Officials emphasised that maintaining uninterrupted logistics is essential for stabilising supply across multiple regions connected to Dakshina Kannada.

Production and imports continuing normally

Darshan H V further confirmed that LPG production at Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL) is continuing without any reduction.

The deputy commissioner said the information was verified directly with the managing director of MRPL, who confirmed that refinery operations are running normally and there has been no decline in production.

In addition to domestic production, LPG imports required by Indian Oil Corporation Limited are also continuing as scheduled. This ensures that both local production and imported supplies are contributing to the availability of LPG in the region.

Temporary pause on commercial LPG supply

While domestic LPG supply remains unaffected, the deputy commissioner noted that the distribution of commercial LPG has been temporarily suspended.

He explained that the suspension is pending further guidelines from the central and state governments. The administration expects clarity on the issue soon and believes the situation will be resolved shortly.

Officials emphasised that the temporary pause in commercial LPG supply is a precautionary administrative step and is not expected to cause long-term disruptions.

Essential services given priority

The district administration has prioritised LPG supply to essential institutions to ensure that critical services continue without interruption.

Hospitals, educational institutions, hostels, residential schools, military canteens, Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) units and prisons will continue to receive uninterrupted LPG supplies.

In addition, LPG agencies have been requested to maintain adequate supply for community kitchens operating at temples, churches and mosques across the district.

Authorities are also addressing a request from railway station officials regarding LPG supply requirements, ensuring that their needs are given priority.

Conclusion

The deputy commissioner reiterated that the administration is closely monitoring the LPG supply chain and coordinating with oil companies, police authorities and distribution agencies to maintain stable supply across Dakshina Kannada.

He once again urged residents to avoid panic bookings and rely on the regular distribution system.

“With adequate production, imports and strict monitoring of distribution, there is no reason for concern regarding domestic LPG availability in the district,” Darshan H V assured.
