Mangaluru: A young nurse from Puttur has alleged that a man who abused and threatened her and her friends has continued to issue death threats even after complaints were filed with the police. The woman has also alleged that no action was taken against the accused for several days, leaving her fearful for her safety and prompting her to seek protection from Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Durga Vahini leaders.
The complainant, identified as Nandini, was staying in a rented house at Neerumarga. She has alleged that the accused, Naushad, illegally entered her house, abused her friends and later threatened to kill her after she lodged a complaint against him.
The allegations have raised concerns over the safety of the complainant, who said she is now afraid to move around alone following the alleged threats.
Incident at rented house
According to Nandini, she had travelled to Mysuru on August 16 and had handed over the keys of her rented house to her friend Chandana so that the latter could feed her pet dog.
On August 17, Chandana reportedly went to Nandini’s house along with another friend, Aditya, a nurse from Kerala.
It was during this time that Naushad allegedly arrived at the house based on information provided by Aditya. Nandini alleged that the accused illegally entered the premises, abused Chandana and Aditya and created a disturbance.
After learning about the incident, Nandini contacted Chandana over the phone. She alleged that Naushad answered the call and abused her over the phone before allegedly issuing threats to her life.
The incident prompted Nandini to approach the police and lodge a complaint against Naushad at the Mangaluru Women’s Police Station.
Alleged death threats after police complaint
Nandini alleged that the threats escalated after Naushad came to know that a police complaint had been filed against him.
According to her, the accused allegedly sent her a voice message through WhatsApp in which he openly threatened to kill her. She claimed that the message contained serious threats and left her deeply frightened.
The nurse subsequently approached the Mangaluru Rural Police Station on August 20 and filed another complaint, seeking action and protection.
She alleged that despite the seriousness of the threats, no action was taken against the accused for around 10 days after the complaint was lodged.
The alleged delay in action left her increasingly worried about her safety, she said.
Woman seeks help from VHP and Durga Vahini
Fearing for her safety, Nandini reportedly contacted leaders of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Durga Vahini and sought their assistance in obtaining protection.
She has expressed concern over her ability to move about freely, stating that recent incidents in the city have further added to her fears.
“Looking at the recent incidents happening in Mangaluru, I am afraid to go out. We need proper protection,” Nandini said emotionally while speaking about her situation.
The complainant has sought immediate action against the accused and adequate police protection, maintaining that she fears for her life following the alleged death threats.
Claims of photos and videos raise fresh concerns
The case took another turn when Aditya, who was reportedly present at Nandini’s house at the time of the alleged incident, was contacted by VHP leaders.
According to information shared with the organisation’s leaders, Aditya allegedly claimed that Naushad was in possession of her photographs and videos.
This has led to suspicions that the accused may have allegedly been using the material to blackmail her. However, the details of the alleged photographs and videos and the circumstances under which they were obtained have not been independently established.
Aditya has reportedly returned to Kerala and is currently said to be unreachable.
The allegations regarding possible blackmail have added another dimension to the case and could require further investigation by the police if a formal complaint is filed in this regard.
Hospital management reportedly dismisses nurses
Meanwhile, the case has reportedly affected the employment of the two nurses involved in the matter.
According to the allegations, after the dispute and complaints reached the police, the hospital management ordered the dismissal of both Nandini and Aditya.
The reasons cited by the hospital management for the alleged dismissal were not immediately known.
For Nandini, the development has added to her concerns at a time when she is already dealing with alleged threats and fears over her personal safety.
The matter now involves allegations of illegal entry into a residence, abuse, criminal intimidation and possible blackmail. Nandini has sought protection and action against the accused, while questions have also been raised over the alleged delay in police action.
The case is expected to draw further attention as the complainant continues to seek security and authorities examine the allegations made against Naushad.
The claims in the case remain allegations based on the complainant’s version, and the findings of any police investigation or legal proceedings will determine the further course of action.
