Dakshina Kannada: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for several districts of Karnataka, including Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada, forecasting heavy rainfall till August 29. Rainfall activity is expected to intensify from Tuesday and continue till September 1, with coastal, Malnad and interior regions likely to witness heavy showers.

Rainfall forecast and wind speeds

The IMD has warned of widespread rainfall across the state, particularly in coastal and Malnad districts on Wednesday, August 27. Northern interior districts will also see strong winds with speeds ranging between 30-40 km per hour till August 28, while southern interior districts will experience similar conditions till August 29.

Apart from the coastal belt, heavy rain is expected in Belagavi, Bidar, Kalaburagi, Yadgir, Chikkamagaluru, Kodagu, Shivamogga, Vijayanagar, Tumakuru, Ramanagara, Mysuru, Mandya, Kolar, Hassan, Davangere, Chitradurga, Chikkaballapur, Chamarajanagar, Bengaluru Rural, Bengaluru Urban, Vijayapura, Raichur, Koppal, Haveri, Gadag and Dharwad districts.

IMD advisory

The IMD has advised residents to stay alert, avoid waterlogged areas, and take precautionary measures in view of the predicted heavy rains. Authorities have been directed to keep disaster management teams on standby in sensitive regions.
