An unidentified thief, dressed in pants, stole money from two laborers at a construction site near Maadur on Friday, July 26. The incident has heightened concerns in the DK district, already on edge due to the notorious Chaddi gang’s activities. Authorities now suspect the thief may belong to another group, dubbed the “Pant gang.” CCTV footage captured the suspect’s face.
The theft occurred in a building owned by Shashi, a Maadur resident. Two laborers were working on tile installation when, around 4:30 PM, a well-built man, aged 30-35, entered the building. He left the room where the laborers were working, went to another room, and stole approximately Rs 2,000 from their clothes.
The laborers discovered the theft when they prepared to leave for home and found their pockets empty. Without money for bus fare, they informed the building owner. Reviewing the CCTV footage, they saw the unidentified man exiting the building and boarding an auto-rickshaw headed towards Deralakatte.
This incident follows a similar theft two days earlier, where Rs 8,000 was stolen from laborers at another construction site. The appearance of social media messages and video footage about the Pant gang’s activities in Maadur-Kotekar has alarmed the local community. A complaint has been filed at the Ullal police station.
