Marking the run‑up to GST’s eighth anniversary, the Mangaluru GST Commissionerate teamed with the FIT India Campaign on 18 May to stage a spirited Cycle Marathon themed “GST: Simplifying Taxes; Empowering Citizens.” Riders launched from the Central Revenue Building, Attavara, after commissioner S. Keshava Narayan Reddy dropped the flag, setting a tone of community energy and fiscal awareness.

Officials from CGST and Customs—including additional commissioner Vaibhav Kiran Pagare, assistant commissioners, and retired officers—joined forces with the Mangaluru Cycle Club, trade‑body delegates, and eco‑minded residents. Their shared mission: spotlight GST’s achievements while pushing fitness and green mobility.

Throughout the ride, volunteers showcased user‑friendly reforms such as e‑invoicing, streamlined compliance portals, rapid refunds, and the GST Network (GSTN)—all pillars of India’s push for a transparent, business‑friendly tax ecosystem. Since its debut on 1 July 2017, GST has fused myriad indirect levies into one coherent regime, easing paperwork for entrepreneurs and shielding consumers from cascading taxes.

Sunday’s marathon underscored “Citizen‑Centric Governance”: officials mingled with cyclists, fielded queries, and distributed leaflets detailing how GST fuels economic growth, widens the tax base, and boosts interstate commerce. The pedal‑powered outreach also echoed FIT India’s call for active lifestyles and reduced carbon footprints.

By blending policy advocacy with public participation and wellness, the Mangaluru GST Commissionerate reaffirmed its commitment to open dialogue ahead of GST Day on 1 July—promising more initiatives that marry fiscal literacy with community health.
