Bantwal: In a practice uncommon for the month of Aati, the Peruvayi Guttu in Bantwal taluk upheld its annual tradition by hosting the nema of daivas Panjurli and Dhoomavathi on Sunday, August 11.

Aati, the fourth month of the Tulu calendar, is regarded in Tulu Nadu as inauspicious for major celebrations. Locals associate the month with the spread of infectious diseases, and rituals like Aati Kalenja are performed to protect communities from illness.

Despite the general avoidance of daiva nema during this period, Peruvayi Guttu continues to honour the practice each year, attracting large gatherings. This year’s ceremony once again drew devoted participation, showcasing the community’s deep respect for its unique tradition.
