The authorities in Mangaluru have arrested the owner of a paying guest (PG) facility and his collaborators for allegedly attacking an engineering student.

The incident occurred when the 18-year-old former resident was reportedly assaulted after posting a negative review about the PG on social media. The attack took place on the evening of March 17, around 10:30 PM, within the Kadri police station area of Mangaluru.

The victim, Vikas, originally from Kalaburagi, had lived in the PG for six months before relocating. After leaving, he shared a one-star rating on Google, pointing out problems like insects in the food, poor cleanliness, and unkempt bathrooms.

Upon seeing the review, Santosh, the PG owner, allegedly threatened Vikas and insisted that he take it down. When Vikas refused, Santosh, along with four other individuals, allegedly assaulted him and forced him to remove the negative comment.

This incident came to light on March 20, 2025, at 5:47 PM.
