On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for mechanization and industrialization projects worth ₹3,800 crores in Mangaluru. “New India is the land of new opportunities. Commissioning of INS Vikrant is a proud moment for all citizens,” Modi stated, marking the day as historic for India’s territorial and economic security.
Highlighting the initiatives, he emphasized the importance of expanding the manufacturing sector and promoting Make in India to build a developed India. He also stressed the need to boost exports and make products cost-competitive.
Modi noted that India’s port capacity has doubled in the last eight years due to port-led development efforts. He inaugurated a ₹280 crore project for mechanization of berth number 14 at NMPA and laid the foundation for five projects worth around ₹1,000 crore at the port.
Additionally, he inaugurated two projects by Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL) – the BS VI Upgradation Project and a Sea Water Desalination Plant, valued at ₹1,830 crore and ₹680 crore, respectively.
Modi stated that these projects will enhance ease of living and employment in Karnataka and that the ‘One District and One Product’ scheme will provide market access for products from local fishermen, artisans, and farmers.
