Beltangady: Beltangady police have registered a case after allegedly uncovering an illegal prostitution racket operating from a room inside ‘Pawan Canteen’ located on KEB Road in Kasaba village of Beltangady.

According to police sources, the alleged racket was being operated from a room within the canteen premises with the intention of earning illegal profits.

Police said Sundar Shetty, who was running the canteen, had allegedly joined hands with his acquaintance Usman to carry out prostitution activities by bringing women to the premises.

Police act on credible information

The operation came to light after Police Sub-Inspector (Investigation) Sikandar Pasha of Beltangady police station reportedly received credible information regarding the alleged illegal activities being conducted at the location.

Following the tip-off, police carried out discreet verification and surveillance at the premises. During the inquiry, officials allegedly confirmed that prostitution activities were taking place inside the room attached to the canteen.

Based on the findings, further action was initiated by the police department.

Raid conducted by police team

On the evening of May 10, Beltangady Circle Inspector Ravi B. S., along with a team of police personnel, conducted a raid at the canteen premises.

Police officials inspected the room and collected evidence related to the alleged illegal activity. Further details regarding the number of persons rescued or detained during the raid have not yet been officially disclosed.

Authorities stated that the operation was part of ongoing efforts to curb illegal activities and human exploitation in the region.

Case registered under Immoral Traffic Act

In connection with the incident, Beltangady police registered a case under Crime No. 48/2026.

The accused have been booked under Sections 3, 4, and 5 of the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, which deal with running a brothel, living on the earnings of prostitution, and procuring persons for prostitution.

Additionally, a case has also been registered under Section 143(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Police said further investigation into the case is currently under progress, and officials are examining whether additional individuals were involved in operating the alleged racket.

Investigation continues

Investigators are expected to gather further evidence, question those connected to the case, and verify whether similar illegal activities had been carried out at the premises earlier.

Police have reiterated that strict action will be taken against those involved in human trafficking and prostitution-related offences.

Authorities also appealed to the public to share information regarding suspicious activities to help law enforcement agencies take timely action.
