Bantwal: Vittal police intercepted a pickup vehicle allegedly involved in the illegal transportation of cattle at Panjarakodi in Kolnadu village on Wednesday and arrested one person in connection with the case. During the operation, police rescued two cattle and seized the vehicle used for transportation.
The incident came to light during a police operation conducted in the area as officials monitored suspicious vehicle movement. Authorities later initiated legal action and registered a case while beginning further investigation into the matter.
Driver arrested during police operation
According to police officials, the arrested individual was identified as Mohammed Haneef, aged 44 and a resident of Balepuni.
Police stated that the pickup vehicle was intercepted during checking operations at Panjarakodi in Kolnadu village. During inspection of the vehicle, officials reportedly found two cattle being transported.
Following the interception, police detained the driver and questioned him regarding the transportation of the animals. During the inquiry, police said the accused allegedly informed investigators that the cattle were being transported for slaughter and that he did not possess valid permits for transportation.
Based on the preliminary findings, authorities proceeded with further legal action under relevant provisions.
Another accused escapes from spot
Police stated that another individual, identified as Basheer, was allegedly escorting the pickup vehicle in a Swift car at the time of the incident.
However, according to investigators, the accused managed to escape from the location before police could detain him.
Officials further alleged that while fleeing from the spot, the accused drove the vehicle recklessly and endangered the lives of police personnel present at the scene.
Police attempted to stop the vehicle, but the accused reportedly escaped and remains absconding.
Authorities have launched efforts to trace the individual and bring him before the law.
Vehicle seized, investigation underway
Following the operation, police seized the pickup vehicle involved in the transportation along with the rescued cattle.
Officials said the cattle were safely taken into custody following the seizure process. Necessary legal procedures were also initiated regarding the transportation case.
A case has been registered at the Vittal Police Station against the arrested accused and the absconding individual.
Police officials stated that further investigation is underway to determine additional details related to the incident and ascertain whether others may have been involved.
Authorities are also expected to continue efforts to locate the absconding accused as part of the ongoing investigation.
