Mangaluru: Following Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s recent visit, Mangaluru city is now dealing with a troubling after-effect — dangerously unstable flex banners that continue to sway in coastal winds.

In the lead-up to the CM’s arrival, numerous large flex boards were hastily put up across various parts of the city, including Thokkottu and Ullal, to welcome the leader. While many banners within city limits were cleared soon after the event ended on Saturday, several still remain in rural and semi-urban pockets, creating serious safety hazards.

At the Thokkottu flyover, massive “Manaso Ichche” banners have either collapsed or are leaning precariously into the roads. Their close placement has begun to hinder pedestrian access and daily traffic flow.

More worrying is the fact that many of these boards were mounted using heavy wooden supports. Strong coastal winds have caused several of them to topple, posing a grave threat to two-wheeler riders and passersby. In certain areas, the banners have even fallen onto moving roads, turning into life-threatening obstacles.

Despite repeated complaints from residents, local authorities have not acted. In places like Mannagudde, banners remain untouched days after the CM’s programme, raising questions about official negligence.

Citizens are now urging the Mangaluru City Corporation and relevant agencies to swiftly remove these leftover structures. Many are also calling for strict enforcement against unauthorised flex installations, especially those that compromise public safety.
