Bantwal: In a heartening example of doorstep public service, postal department staff carried a computer and other Aadhaar equipment nearly 1 km through hilly terrain to reach the home of an 87-year-old woman who was unable to travel for an essential Aadhaar update.
Juliana, a resident of Ammadi village in Bantwal taluk, was facing difficulties accessing government benefits as her Aadhaar details had not been updated. Her advanced age made walking difficult, while poor road connectivity also prevented her from easily travelling to an Aadhaar service centre.
Aadhaar service reaches her doorstep
Savitha, a postal delivery worker attached to the Modankapu branch post office, learnt about Juliana’s situation and informed the postal department’s Aadhaar service staff.
Nuthan Bangera, system administrator of the Puttur Division, then decided to take the Aadhaar equipment directly to Juliana’s home with assistance from her family.
The team carried the computer and other equipment for around 1 km through hilly terrain before reaching the house.
The staff subsequently completed Juliana’s Aadhaar update at her home, including biometric and mobile number updates, providing relief to the elderly woman.
Postal team provides doorstep services
The initiative has received appreciation from members of the public and senior departmental officials.
The postal department’s Aadhaar service wing provides doorstep assistance to people who are unable to travel, including those facing mobility difficulties. Teams also visit homes and special-needs institutions to provide Aadhaar-related services.
Nuthan Bangera said the Puttur Division’s Aadhaar service team had so far visited more than 100 locations to provide services at people’s homes.
The initiative seeks to ensure that age, mobility challenges and difficult road connectivity do not prevent people from accessing essential Aadhaar services.
