Mangaluru: More than five years after Ullal was declared a taluk, progress has finally been made toward establishing a dedicated administrative hub. Authorities have identified land in Konaje to construct the long-awaited Praja Soudha—the taluk’s central administration building.
Initially, Thokkottu was considered for the project, but that plan was dropped due to technical complications. Ullal tahsildar Puttaraju D.A. confirmed that a proposal has now been sent to the state government, requesting sanction of two acres of land currently owned by Mangalore University.
“Though the land in Konaje was once classified as government property, it is now officially registered under Mangalore University. We’ve secured their consent, and the university has written to the government expressing willingness to allocate it,” he said.
Once approval is granted, construction will begin, and all major departments—such as the taluk office, sub-registrar’s office, food and civil supplies, survey department, treasury, and consumer affairs—will be relocated under one roof. Assembly Speaker and local MLA U.T. Khader is expected to finalize the budget and project plan soon.
There has been strong public demand for a comprehensive administrative facility in Ullal. CPI(M) Ullal zone secretary Sunil Kumar Bajal highlighted that the absence of a unified office has long inconvenienced residents. He also recalled the April 29 rally held in Deralakatte, which called for Ullal’s complete infrastructural development.
