Mangaluru: A Pre-University (PUC) student was allegedly attacked with a knife by a youth while waiting at a bus stop to attend college in Ira village of Bantwal taluk in Dakshina Kannada district on Monday.
The accused, identified as Javvar (28), a local trader, allegedly assaulted the student without warning before fleeing the scene.
Student suffers hand injury
According to police and local sources, the student was waiting at the bus stop to travel to college when the accused allegedly attacked her with a knife.
The victim sustained an injury to her hand and suffered heavy bleeding during the incident.
Local residents immediately rushed to the spot and shifted the injured student to a nearby hospital, where she is undergoing treatment.
Bloodstains were visible at the bus stop following the attack, highlighting the severity of the incident.
Accused absconding
Both the injured student and the accused are residents of Montimar Padpu in Bantwal.
Following the attack, the accused allegedly fled from the scene before police arrived.
Police have launched a search operation to trace and apprehend him.
Police register case
Personnel from the Bantwal Rural Police Station visited the scene, conducted an inspection and collected preliminary evidence.
A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway to ascertain the motive behind the attack and the circumstances leading to the incident.
