Mangaluru: In a bid to foster innovation and support entrepreneurship, the government has rolled out several financial aid schemes for startups. To make these schemes more accessible and impactful, District Secretary Tulasi Maddineni has urged officials to take proactive steps in promoting them across Dakshina Kannada.
At a multi-departmental progress review meeting held at the Deputy Commissioner’s office on Tuesday, Tulasi highlighted a noticeable gap—despite the district being home to several top-tier professional institutions, including engineering and medical colleges, interest in startup schemes remains low.
To bridge this gap, she instructed officials to organize targeted awareness campaigns in collaboration with these educational institutions. The goal is to inspire students and recent graduates to tap into government support and launch their own ventures.
Deputy Commissioner Mullai Muhilan MP assured that efforts are already underway. He mentioned ongoing partnerships with engineering colleges to promote entrepreneurial thinking among students. Notably, an MoU has been signed with the National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK), which has been named the nodal institution to lead the initiative.
Muhilan expressed optimism about the region’s potential, stating that such collaborative efforts will likely result in a rise in startup activity in the near future.
