Puttur: A logo designed by Kannada artist K Ram Prasad has been selected by the Central government as the official logo of the VBG Ramji Scheme, a new version of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme. The selected logo will be officially unveiled at a function in New Delhi on June 29, where the artist will also be felicitated and presented with a cash award of Rs 50,000.
Logo chosen from over 7,000 entries
The Central government had invited artists from across the country to design a logo for the VBG Ramji Scheme through a nationwide competition. More than 7,000 entries were received from artists and designers from different states.
Among the thousands of submissions, the design created by K Ram Prasad, son of Mallesh Acharya and Anuradha K of Puttur, emerged as the winning entry. His selection was confirmed around one-and-a-half months after he submitted the design.
The logo will now serve as the official identity of the VBG Ramji Scheme, marking a significant achievement for the young artist and bringing recognition to Puttur and Karnataka’s artistic community.
Last-minute effort leads to national recognition
Sharing his experience, Ram Prasad said he had never imagined that his design would eventually be selected by the Central government.
He said he first came across the competition announcement online and initially planned to participate before the original deadline of March 30. During the final week before the submission date, he worked extensively on different concepts and designs.
Before creating the logo, he studied the objectives and nature of the VBG Ramji Scheme to ensure that his design reflected its purpose. Despite creating nearly 20 different designs, he was not satisfied with any of them and eventually decided not to participate, especially after learning that nearly 5,000 entries had already been submitted.
However, on April 1, he discovered that the deadline had been extended by four more days. The extension renewed his enthusiasm and encouraged him to make another attempt.
He resumed work on the project and eventually came up with a design that met his expectations. The logo was submitted on April 4, just before the extended deadline expired.
“I never expected it to be selected,” he said while recounting the journey behind the winning design.
Creative process behind the logo
Explaining his approach to designing logos, Ram Prasad said that every successful logo begins with a strong concept.
According to him, creating a logo involves first understanding the theme and preparing several illustrations that visually communicate the intended message. He noted that designers often create more than 20 concepts before arriving at the final version.
He added that the design is gradually simplified and refined until it becomes an effective visual identity. In many cases, the best idea emerges at the very last moment, making all earlier concepts irrelevant.
Ram Prasad said he had experienced this phenomenon many times during his career and that the same happened while designing the logo for the VBG Ramji Scheme.
Recognition for Karnataka’s creative talent
The selection of Ram Prasad’s logo has brought pride to the artistic community in Karnataka and highlighted the talent of local artists on a national platform.
His achievement demonstrates how creativity, persistence and dedication can lead to recognition at the highest levels. The official unveiling of the logo in New Delhi and the honour bestowed upon the artist are expected to inspire aspiring designers and young artists across the state.
Conclusion
The selection of K Ram Prasad’s logo from among more than 7,000 entries marks a significant achievement for the Puttur-based artist. His journey from nearly abandoning the competition to winning national recognition serves as a testament to perseverance and the power of creative thinking.
