Puttur: A 52-year-old bike rider was killed after his motorcycle collided with a tanker lorry at Neerakatte in Bajathur village on the Mangaluru-Bengaluru National Highway 75 on the night of September 25.

The deceased has been identified as Annu, a resident of Kaje in Kodimbadi village of Puttur taluk. He was working as a mason.

The accident occurred when Annu was returning home to Kodimbadi after visiting the house of a deceased relative in Golithottu.

Bike collides with tanker

According to the complaint, Annu was riding his motorcycle towards Kodimbadi when he reached Neerakatte on the highway.

At the spot, his bike collided with the mudguard of a tanker lorry travelling from Mangaluru towards Hassan. The tanker was being driven by Mallappa Sankonatti.

The impact threw Annu onto the road, leaving him with severe injuries.

He died on the spot due to the injuries sustained in the collision.

Case registered at Puttur Traffic police station

Following the accident, a complaint was filed by tanker driver Mallappa Sankonatti.

Based on the complaint, Puttur Traffic police have registered a case and initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident.

Police are examining the details of the collision, including the movements of the motorcycle and tanker at the time of the incident.

The accident occurred on NH 75, a major route connecting Mangaluru with Bengaluru through the coastal and Malnad regions.

Family loses breadwinner

Annu, who worked as a mason, is survived by his mother, wife, two sons and a daughter.

The death has left the family mourning the loss of a member who was returning home after visiting a bereaved family when the fatal accident occurred.

Further investigation by Puttur Traffic police is under way.
