Puttur: A tragic road accident occurred late Sunday night near Lavathadka, close to Nelyady on the Mangaluru-Bengaluru National Highway, when a private sleeper bus collided with a parked Hitachi machine.
The fatal crash resulted in the death of Shankernarayana Bhat, a resident of Karkala. Several other passengers aboard the bus sustained injuries in the collision.
The sleeper bus, which was travelling from Mangaluru to Bengaluru, rammed into the rear end of the immobile construction equipment. The front portion of the vehicle was severely damaged, and the force of the impact left the bus badly mangled.
Emergency services rushed to the scene soon after the incident, and the injured were shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Police officials from the Nelyady station have filed a case and begun an investigation to determine the exact cause of the mishap. Preliminary information suggests poor visibility and lack of warning signs around the parked machine may have contributed to the tragedy.
Authorities are also checking whether the Hitachi was left on the roadside without proper safety measures or reflectors.
Further details regarding the condition of the injured are awaited.
