The Puttur Town police arrested an autorickshaw driver and two women on Wednesday for inhumanly transporting a one-year-old calf in their vehicle. The incident unfolded when a group of Bajrang Dal activists spotted the calf crammed in the footrest space of the autorickshaw on the Puttur Bypass road. Alarmed by the situation, the activists pursued the vehicle and promptly alerted the police.

Upon receiving the report, the Puttur police intercepted the autorickshaw and took the driver and the two women into custody. The activists also intervened to untie the distressed calf from the cramped space where it had been confined. Following the rescue, the police transported the calf to a nearby cattle rescue center for care and rehabilitation.

Authorities have filed charges against the driver and the two women under the Karnataka Prevention of Cow Slaughter and Preservation of Cattle Act, as well as the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act. This incident has raised concerns about animal welfare and the treatment of livestock during transportation, prompting calls for stricter enforcement of existing laws to protect animals from cruelty.
